At St Marie’s, ‘we ASPIRE to love, live and learn, united as one family in the light of Christ’. As one family in our Catholic school, we recognise and value the gifts and talents of every individual pupil in our community and work tirelessly to ensure all pupils ‘Have Life & Have it to the Full’ (John 10:10) at St Marie’s.
St Marie’s Catholic Primary School and Nursery looks forward to working with pupils and parents/carers to ensure fully inclusive access to our education. We recognise the diverse educational needs within our community and are dedicated to providing an environment where students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) are valued and supported. Our child-centred approach is built around a culture of high aspirations for all pupils and the belief that all children must be supported and given opportunities to reach their academic potential and develop their personal skills and talents.
The Head Teacher, Governors and SENDCo oversee the school’s policy for inclusion and are responsible for ensuring that it is implemented effectively throughout the school. In partnership with parents, we follow a detailed graduated approach for support and intervention for pupils with Additional Needs, built upon the foundations of universal provision of quality-first teaching of the National Curriculum, routines to promote emotional wellbeing and positive behaviour, carefully planned differentiation & adaptations (including to challenge and extend learning) to learning, effective assessment of progress and appropriate, evidence-informed interventions.
Collaboration is key; therefore, our highly skilled teachers and support staff work closely with the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENDCo) to develop effective strategies that cater to each pupil's unique requirements. Furthermore, we actively engage with external agencies to provide additional support and resources, ensuring that our SEND students receive the highest standard of education. Together, we strive to empower every learner, nurturing their potential and promoting a sense of belonging within our school community.
The school’s SENDCo is Miss G Jordan.
The school’s Link Governor for SEND is Mrs C Agbanoma.
