In Year 3 RE, we explored Luke 10:25–37, the Parable of the Good Samaritan, and thought about how Jesus teaches us to show love, kindness and care for others. We made links between the Good Samaritan’s actions and Fairtrade, considering how we can show care and respect for farmers and workers around the world. We learned about the importance of treating people fairly and recognising that everyone has dignity and is important. We then created Fairtrade posters to share our learning and encourage others to make choices that help support people around the world.

Year 3 have been exploring the colour wheel and developing their understanding of how colours work together. We learnt about primary colours and how they can be mixed to create secondary colours, before exploring tertiary colours and the different combinations they can create.
We also looked at tones, discovering how colours can be changed to create lighter and darker variations.
The children then used their knowledge to create and complete their own colour wheels, carefully mixing and applying colours to show what they had learnt.
This exploration of colour will provide an important foundation for our artwork later in the term, when we will be inspired by the work of Vincent van Gogh and explore how he used colour in his paintings.

6EP have begun their first class reader of the year – The Adventures of Odysseus!
We have been diving into the fascinating world of Greek mythology, discovering mythical creatures, legendary heroes and exciting adventures. The children have been incredibly engaged and enthusiastic, using their imaginations to explore this wonderful world.
We have also been developing our writing skills, learning how to create vivid and atmospheric setting descriptions that transport the reader into the heart of the story.
What a fantastic start to our Year 6 reading and writing journey!

This week in Maths, Year 3 have been exploring flexible partitioning and discovering that numbers can be partitioned in lots of different ways! We have been thinking carefully about place value, discussing the value of each digit and how this helps us to represent numbers in different ways.
The children have worked incredibly hard, challenging themselves to find different ways to partition numbers and explain their thinking.
We are also so proud of how brilliantly Year 3 have settled into KS2. They have come in ready to learn, got straight to work and have shown such a fantastic attitude towards their learning already. What a wonderful start to the year!

Key Stage 2 took some time on Thursday morning to vote for the vice house captains in year 5. Each candidate made a speech in assembly and every pupil in Key Stage 2 had a chance to vote for the vice captain in their house. The year 5 candidates were very confident and had some excellent ideas and enthusiasm, it will be a very close race and each candidate should be very proud of their performance. As a vice house captain, the successful pupils will stand in for house captains if they are absent and will learn the role of house captain so that they can step up into the house captain role next year.
