Yesterday, the Year 1 children had a fantastic time celebrating Women in Science Day and learning that anyone can grow up to be an amazing scientist. They explored the work of Marie Curie, the first woman to win a Nobel Prize, and learned that she was a famous scientist who led important research into radioactivity and helped scientists understand how X-rays work. Her discoveries help doctors look inside our bodies to check our bones and keep people healthy.
The children then created their own X-ray pictures using cotton buds to form bone shapes. It was a wonderful session, full of excitement, wonder, and curiosity as the children discovered how scientists make new findings.
